Questions to Ask Before Any Procedure

Whether it's a routine office procedure or a more involved surgical intervention, going in informed makes a real difference. Here's a checklist of questions to bring to your consultation.

About the procedure

  • What exactly will be done, and why is it the recommended approach?
  • What are the alternatives, including doing nothing?
  • What are the risks and how common are they?
  • What does the recovery look like — typical timeline, restrictions, follow-up?

Practical logistics

  • How should I prepare in the days leading up to the procedure?
  • Will I need someone to drive me home?
  • What pain management is typical?
  • When can I return to work, exercise, or normal activities?

Cost and coverage

  • What is the expected out-of-pocket cost?
  • Will insurance cover this, and what documentation will I need?
  • Are there payment plans or financing options?
